Our body consists of approximately 30 trillion cells, Each cell has approximately 20000 genes, Each genes is made of DNA.
DNA alterations, in various forms, can cause indefinite cell growth/devision; that otherwise is always controlled. This causes cancer.
Each cancer patient has different genetic alteration unique to that particular cancer. We can now sequence these genes by NGS and find genetic alteration that drives cancer. And Fortunately science has discovered medicines for some genetic driver alterations, that is called targeted therapy.
This precision/ personalised approach has revolutionised cancer medicine field, and became standard of care in many types of cancers.
